과거의 위대한 역사 속에서 조각상은 정치가, 종교인, 사상 가, 신화 적 존재로 탄생했지만, 현재는 그 조각상이 어느 시대의 누구였는지 궁금증을 불러일으키지도 못한 채 무심히 지나치게 되는 일상적 배경이 되었다.

 

조각상을 이해하기 위해 다시 역사를 공부하는 것도 중요하다. 그러나 조각상 자체에 집중하여 형태, 질감, 동세, 표정, 세월의 흔적을 하나하나 살펴보는 것도 의미 있는 일이다. 왜냐하면 조각상은 과거의 산물이기도 하지만, 현재에도 여전히 우리의 삶과 가까이 존재감과 영향력을 미치고 있기 때문이다.

 

이렇게 조각상을 관조적으로 다시 바라보면, 역사와 신화 속의 위대한 인간이 아닌, 비와 바람에 깎이고 닳은 보편적인 우리 인간의 모습을 발견할 수 있다. 그리고 조각상의 실제 인물과 이를 탄생시킨 예술가, 그리고 이를 바라보는 감상자는 유구한 역사를 거슬러 순간적인 만남이 이루어 낼 수 있다.

 

조각이 지닌 오랜 세월의 흔적을 표현하기 위해 3D N.C 프린터로 수십 일에 걸쳐 음영과 질감을 미세한 높이로 출력했다. 조각가의 수천만 번의 끌과 망치질에 비할 바는 아니지만, 3D N.C 프린터가 겹겹이 쌓아 올리면서 만든 굴곡은 조각상이 지닌 역사성과 현존성을 더 생생히 전달할 수 있으리라 본다.

 

 

Statues usually have been created in order to represent politicians, clerics, philosophers, and someone of mythology in the past time. However, people today seem to be losing their interest and even passing them by with indifference in spite of their own passionate history.

 

Looking into every detail like forms, postures, textures, expressions, and traces of time about statues is very meaningful to understand them as well as learning history. Although they have been originated in the past, they also have had a great influence on the present.

 

When we look at statues contemplatively, we can discover ordinary people who have worn out from rain and wind at a real-life instead of a great human in history and myths. Then we can have a chance to meet instantly between artists who created statues of the past and audience who see them at present against the long history.

 

Expressing the trace of long periods of time, I have printed the shades and textures of statues using      3- Dimensional Numerical Control Printers for many days. Although thousands of sculptor’s efforts with a hammer and chisel are more valuable to these works, I believe that numerous layers that are made from 3d printers enable people to deliver historical authenticity and presentness.
